Using Office365 SMTP Settings

The following process needs to be applied if the customer wants to use Office 365 SMTP settings, inside RH Portal.
This process requires only changes in Office 365 account

Step #1: Enabling Secure SMTP Connection

  1. Navigate to https://admin.microsoft.com/ and click on Active Users.

  2. Select the user who will be used for SMTP authentication.

  3. Click on the user to open the flyer on the right.

  4. Click on the mail tab, and under Email Setting, click on Manage email apps.

  5. Enable the Authenticated SMTP checkbox and click on Save Changes.

Step #2: Creating App Password

  1. Navigate to My Sign-Ins with account credentials that will be used to perform SMTP authentication.

  2. Click on Add Sign Method, Select App Password from the drop-down, and click on Add button.

  3. Give a name to settings i.e RHSSMTPSETTING

  4. A password will be generated. A password will be used to authenticate SMTP connection in Right Portal.

    The above configuration might take some hours to reflect.

Step #3: Overriding Security Settings

  1. Navigate to the Azure portal and click on Azure Active Directory.

  2. Click on Properties on the left sub menu

  3. Click on Manage security defaults at the bottom of the page. It will open a flyer at right.

  4. Select Disable from the drop-down ( you can choose any option as a reason to disable)

  5. If MFA is enabled in a company: We need to add a conditional policy, so that users remained secure. From the left menu item,

    1. Click on New Policy From Template

    2. Select Require multifactor authentication for all users and then click on Review + Create

    3. Set the Policy state to On and then click on Create button

    4. The policy will be added and enabled

Step #4: Authenticating SMTP Connection In RHS:

  1. Navigate to the company setting inside the right-hand portal.

  2. Click on SMTP Setting and enter the following values

    1 Host: smtp.office365.com
    2 Domain: domain of your email
    3 Username: Email address for which SMTP settings were configured.
    4 Password: App Password generated in step#2
    5 Authentication Type: Login
    6 State TLS Auto: Enabled
    7 Open Verify Mide: Please Select

  3. Click on test settings to test the connection, after a successful connection. Click on update to save the details.
